Job Summary:

The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides operations support services and business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers, and staff. The CAO organization comprises more than 700 technical and administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, childcare, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel.

This paid internship* is located in the Office of Finance, Finance Immediate Office, Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), U.S. House of Representatives (House). The Office of Finance comprises five (5) directorates tasked with providing “Member Focused” and “Service Driven” world class Customer Service, protecting the integrity of the House and its Members, and exercising Financial Stewardship over House activities. The offices of Accounting, Financial Counseling, Payroll & Benefits, Budget Planning & Analysis, and the Finance Immediate work closely in accomplishing this mission.

The Fall Internship will begin with orientation September 24th.

* paid at an annual rate of $35,677 not to exceed 120 days

** The CAO standard business hours are 8:30 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week internship that will require onsite attendance in Washington, D.C.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

·       Key responsibilities include processing vendor invoices, coordinating vendor inquiries, working independently on assigned projects, and utilizing good judgment in handling and prioritizing work.

·       Take appropriate action to resolve errors (e.g., duplication and/or discrepancies). Verify and/or reconcile information/data entered into financial systems/software.

·       Assist with cardholder issues and research. Reconciliation of House/Member account activity.

·       Support review and reconciliation of payroll adjustment forms and other various transactions.

·       Assist with records management.

Qualifications

Requirements:

·       Currently in pursuit of a Bachelors or Masters degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline.

·       Must have knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and various other software applications.

·       Must be a self-starter who possess the ability to multi-task, work independently and with a team as required.

·       Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, as well as have the ability to establish effective working relationships with senior staff and other high-ranking officials.
