The position is located within the Office of Business and Mission Services, Business Services & Security Solutions Division (AXM-400), Security Applications Support Branch (AXM-420).

This notice is issued under direct-hire authority to recruit new talent to occupations for which FAA has a severe shortage of candidates.

Duties

This position will serve as an IT Specialist (Systems Administration) in the ASH Security Application Support Branch (AXM-420), and will perform multiple, varying, and complex assignment such as building, deploying, managing and supporting ASH's Kubernetes platform under minimal direction to deliver the infrastructure and tools needed to build and deploy custom-built production applications.


The incumbent will be responsible for managing the Kubernetes Container Platforms, innovating automated solutions, patching the environments, assisting with migrating applications to the container platform and engaging with stakeholders to improve processes.

The incumbent will report to the Manager of the Security Applications Support team and will plan, coordinate and implement Kubernetes solutions to meet FAA and ASH requirements for automated build, deploy, release, scan and test functions. They will be responsible for developing and participating in overall Kubernetes product strategy, roadmap, research and development strategy and work closely with the application development team members and leadership to ensure a positive customer experience. Incumbent will provide technical expertise to support staff, stakeholders and leadership as well as responsibility for maintaining existing products, product developments, upgrades and new product or services implementation as required.

Provide technical oversight to contractors and internal teams in the analysis, design, testing, implementation, and migration of legacy web application(s) and non-containerized cloud application(s) into cloud applications utilizing containerization technologies. Lead continuous integration and continuous delivery (Cl/CD) pipelines for containerized applications.


Stays abreast of new containerization tools, DevSecOps practices, and emerging technologies relevant to cloud services. Evaluate container orchestration platforms and tools for compatibility with DevSecOps practices and FAA cloud services. Perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating adaptability to evolving security, DevOps, and containerization requirements.


Informs the Branch Manager and Division Manager of program progress and issues related on all assigned projects and critical issues. Provide regular updates through status reports and performance metrics. Collaborate with ASH program offices, managers, and security specialists to understand their needs and deliver high-quality products and services aligned with security services supported by AXM-400.


The incumbent will apply experience and comprehensive technical knowledge of IT principles, concepts, and methods to administer, develop, deliver, and support information technology (IT) systems and services as well as an understanding of new technologies and methodologies, to solve complex problems and develop improved technical processes or systems.

Contacts are internal and external. Often represents FAA as a senior technical point of contact on projects, programs and other work activities. Broad policies and objectives provide general guidance for addressing issues but allow considerable discretion to develop new and innovative approaches. Draws on experience to solve unusual problems and may create new solutions and policy interpretations as the situation requires.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE IS DEFINED AS:

  • Experience administering and managing secure cloud-based web applications.
  • Experience with the administration of container environments, managing container platforms, and developing automated build pipelines and modules to assist with automation efforts and container on-boarding support.
